General Francis Ogolla was an esteemed figure in Kenya Defence Forces, serving most recently as its Chief since his appointment in April 2023. Ogolla distinguished himself throughout his distinguished 39 year military career by showing outstanding leadership and dedication; graduating both the Ecole Militaire de Paris in Paris, France as well as National Defence College of Kenya; also possessing diplomas from Egerton University for international studies and military science; Bachelor and Masters degrees both awarded from University of Nairobi respectively.
What Was Ogolla’s Military Career Like?
Ogolla embarked on his military journey when he enlisted with Kenya Defense Forces on April 24, 1984 and shortly afterwards received his commission as 2nd Lieutenant and assignment to Kenya Air Force. Over his early career – training both fighter pilot and instructor pilot with United States Air Force as well as Instructor Pilot instructor training within Kenya Air Force- he eventually rose through ranks to achieve Major General status, taking up commanding role from 2018-2021 for Kenya Air Force Commandership.

Unfortunately, General Francis Ogolla perished tragically on April 18th of 2024 during a Kenya Air Force Huey helicopter accident while surveying Kaben, Marakwet East to plan his troops deployment against cattle rustling. Of its 11 passengers on board that fateful flight only two survived while nine perished – Ogolla among them.
